The Bells of Liscarroll/The Humour of Ballinamult (Jigs)

from King of the Blind by Joey Abarta

/

about

I first heard the “Bells of Liscarroll” from a tape of Denis Murphy. I think it belongs to a family of tunes including “The Girl from the Big House” and I thought it would be a great fit on the pipes. The second tune has many names including the “Munster Seanachie”. I heard it first from my good friend Jerry O’Sullivan on his wonderful recording of tunes from the piper O’Farrell, aptly named O'Sullivan Meets O’Farrell. I believe that it is an older version of a jig quite popular at the moment collected from Johnny O’Leary, the accordion player from Sliabh Luachra.
