The Longford Piper/The Balintore Fancy/Follow Me Up to Carlow (Single Jigs)

from King of the Blind by Joey Abarta

/

about

The first tune I got from an old home recording of Co. Longford piper Jimmy Dolan, who said he learned it when he was young from a local piper called Michael Keenan. The second tune I first heard from the great Leo Rowsome on the life-changing record The King of the Pipers. I heard someone play the third tune as a single jig on a compilation recording of piping years ago. The tune is supposed to be as old as the 14th century while the words to the original title, "Marching Song of Feagh MacHugh", were written around 1899 by Patrick Joseph McCall. The steps on this last tune were composed to the melody by my wife, Jackie O’Riley.
