The Old Hag in the Kiln/The Repeal of the Union (Jigs)

from King of the Blind by Joey Abarta

/

about

I got these two jigs from cylinder recordings of Denis or Dinny Delaney (1841–1919). He was a well-known blind Irish piper who lived most of his life in Ballinasloe, Co Galway. The famous collector/author Francis O’Niell described him as "One of the few surviving, good, old-time players of the rollicking style”. He to me embodies an older style of piping that was seldom captured. These two jigs were recorded by Delaney after his competition in the Feis Ceoil in Dublin in 1899.
